She is filmaker and writer. She received a degree in communication studies in the University of Lima. She also studied in New York and Sundance. At the end of her studies she coproduced Madeinusa. Her success came with her second film, The Milk of Sorrow (La teta asustada) which was shortlisted for the Best Foreign Film in the Oscars and won the Golden Bear award. She lives in Barcelona.
