Indiana Rita

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, 1977

Rita Indiana is a Dominican writer and music producer. She has published the novels La Estrategia de Chochueca (The Chochueca Strategy), PAPI, Nombres y animales (Names and Animals) and La mucama de Omicunlé (Omicunlé's Maid), was a finalist in the Vargas Llosa Biennial Award for the Novel in 2016 and won the Grand Prize at the Caribbean Writer's Association Awards in 2017. She writes for El País, Vice and the Guggenheim blog, among other media. El Juidero, the only record brought out by her band: Rita Indiana y los Misterios, has become a cult hit across the Hispano-American world. In 2011 she was named one of the 100 most influential people of Latin descent by the newspaper El País. She currently lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
