Sand in Your Shoes

Juan Sasturain

NOVEL NOIR. SUDAMERICANA, 2007. 368 PAGES.

Sand in Your Shoes is an incredible novel in which Etchenique discovers the benefits of chaos, or disorder at least. On this occasion, the veteran leaves the big city and withdraws to the seaside, a solitary Autumnal beach where, distorted by the passage of time, nothing is what it seems. This is, of course, a suitable setting for a fiction that explores the traps and pitfalls of memory and suspicion, whose main character is locked in a never-ending struggle with disillusionment, trying to re-establish some priorities in his life. First published in the late 80s, Sand in Your Shoes has taken on a new flavour, improving with age like a good wine. Its brilliant, teasing intrigue, precise pace and timeless perspective of a good man obliged to work on the outer fringes of the law combine to make this book a masterpiece.
