Hospital Posadas

Jorge Consiglio

NOVEL, ETERNA CADENCIA, 2015, 304 PAGES

The narrator of this story, who suffers from a kind of chronic apathy, drifts between literature and his job as a medical instrument salesman, keeping an eye out for anything that might later be included in a story. The rhythms of his life are determined by the inexplicable demolition of the 19th century petit hotel across the road from his flat. The past, especially the conversion of the Hospital Posadas into a centre of torture and violence during the military dictatorship of '76, is another major presence. Its shrapnel still bite in the early eighties when he is with Ángela, his first girlfriend. Through her he meets Cardozo, Ángela's sister's husband, a mysterious man, possibly a former policeman or soldier, who after being unemployed for years, gets involved in a murky investigation into the kidnapping of a major businessman.
