NOVEL. LIBROS DEL ZORRO ROJO, 2013. 224 PAGES.
‘Now that it's going to end with my murder, how did this all begin?'
Report on the Blind, a chapter from On Heroes and Tombs, first published in 1961, begins with this question. But because of its independent form and structure we can regard it as a story in its own right. Sabato abandons the third person narrative in favour of the thoughts and voice of the protagonist, Fernando Vidal Olmos. Convinced that the blind are part of a global plot to control the world, Fernando decides to unmask it, leading him on an adventure through darkness and the unconscious. Distanced from everything but his obsession, Vidal Olmos heads onward, guided by his ‘critical paranoia'.
