The Inheritance

Cynthia Edul

NOVEL. CONEJOS, 2012. 181 PAGES

The Inheritance, Cynthia Edul's first novel, examines three periods across several years in the life of a character living in fear and awe of her father. The narrator is the youngest daughter of an upper class family teetering forever on the edge of emotional instability and violence. As the story goes on we learn more and more about the bonds between the different members of the family, in which the father gambles and the mother is indifferent, establishing a tense balance between love and neglect.
In this novel, the writer and playwright Cynthia Edul skilfully portrays a rich, personal world reminiscent of some of Fogwill's writing featuring settings and characters rarely seen in Argentine literature.
