Pedro and the Captain

Mario Benedetti

THEATER, 1979. PUNTO DE LECTURA NEW EDITION, 2006. 88 PAGES.

Pedro and the Captain, which has shocked the world with its crudeness and realism, is a denunciation against torture (one of the worst ignominies practiced by the mechanisms of power) and a hopeful defense of dignity and human rights. Pedro is a political prisoner. During his imprisonment he is harassed and tortured physically and psychologically by the Captain. Confronted by opposing causes in an unequal battle, the victim and the executioner will have to confirm that there are eternal values that no repressive force can erase.
