NON FICTION. CUERPO DE LA METÁFORA, 2013. 90 PAGES.
In this essay, Yushimito presents "a re-reading of the social crisis in the short fiction of Alonso Cueto, Guillermo Niño de Guzmán and Jorge Valenzuela".
The story of the eighties is perhaps one of the most neglected in Peruvian literature. Looking through the newspapers and magazines from those years, one immediately reaches the conclusion that all the focus was on poetry, so much so that one might think that poetry was the only form of expression available to artists to convey their sensations and emotions amid the flood of mistrust and bewilderment that defined the uncertain, violent period.
Very few texts address the fiction of the decade to give us an overview of what was being produced but the present work may well mark a watershed in the critical discourse about the years of political violence and its representation in literature.
"What can be read here exudes fresh argumentation, its perspective based
on a complicity with the authors. What Yushimito has done is exercise what
Octavio Paz describes as ‘generous rigour' focusing on the literary texts
that we like, that teach us something and that stay with us,
like a radioactive material."
