Blowing on the River is the story of a dark romance. It is told by one of the protagonists, Antonio Salcido, during a road trip. Listening is his companion Salmerón, the novel’s narrator, against a backdrop of a radiant winter’s day witnessed only by impassable, portentous snow-capped volcanoes. Salcido’s story is about the loss of Rayda, the love of his life, amidst the violent choices of revolutionary utopianism and religious redemption that defined his generation. Salcido tells the story without fully understanding it, unaware that tragedy hasn’t quite finished with him. This is a gripping novel in which an unexpected twist of fate reunites the lovers in the enigmas of love, choice and destiny.
