NOVEL. ANIMAL DE INVIERNO, 2014. 136 PAGES.

A man has just separated from his wife. Distraught, he starts therapy. One afternoon, in the doctor's waiting room, he meets Adriana, a supposed patient who turns out to be a manipulative young woman, and gets sexually involved with her. Soon Adriana confides to him about the trauma of her birth and shares a stream of perverse revelations that unsettle him even further. Then there's the unexpected confession from his father: when he was about thirty - the same age the man is now - and working as a professor in the United States, he fell in love with a student. This apparently harmless story sets off a train of thoughts about the decisions that shape our lives, the courage and sorrow they entail and their often overwhelming consequences.

Austin, Texas 1979 is a novel about the fissures of the self, masculinity and its demands, paternity and disappointment but first and foremost it is a book about the need to free oneself from your past to start over again.

Interview in EL COMERCIO

«Francisco Ángeles bares all, opening up and exposing himself to the full: the emotions he reveals in this novel are deep and they stay with you. Austin, Texas 1979 is the kind of story that will make you feel as though it were 100% real because it probably really has happened to you. Maybe it's happened to all of us. This is a book that makes a profound emotional connection.»
