INTERVIEW, KAMPA, 2022, 192 PAGES
He has been called «King of readers», «Don Juan of libraries» and «Monsieur Lecture».
Alberto Manguel is first and foremost a reader, and he made this known to Sigliende Geisel. But his identity is multiple and made up of several pieces: being Argentinean by birth, Manguel is also of Canadian nationality, and over the years he has lived in Israel, Tahiti and New York. He is also the father of three children, who one day fell in love with a man, and a Jew raised by a German-Czech nanny who introduced him to German culture and language.
Just as in his books, in this interview Manguel draws on his immeasurable wisdom in a charming and inspiring way. He tells of the relocation of his 40,000-books private library; of the stroke that forced him to learn to speak again; of his love for Dante; his hobby for creating puppets; and of the curious reason why all his children were born during the Frankfurt International Book Fair.
