The town of Ramayoc gets more remote and empty every day, enveloped in a cloud of dust and lost in the white sky. But within this devastated, silent land, stories, like peaches, flourish. Two people are tasked with telling them, in intimate dialogues in the darkness of their houses: Rosendo López, a lifelong criminal, constantly in and out prison, who does odd jobs when he’s free and the Commissar, an officer, justice of the peace and head of the Civil Registry.

Two more people are absent from the stories, pieced together from vague fragments, visions, contradictory accounts, and memories of memories: Ubenceslado Corimayo, a bandit from Coranzulí and Don Pelayo, an itinerant prophet and man of mysterious traits and dimensions who possesses one salient quality: Literature.

Hovering in the background to the events, scenes and characters, is the presence of time, that incessant river that “we should all take note of, beset by solitude as we are.”
