The Night will be Black and White

Socorro Venegas

NOVEL. CONTRASEÑA, NEW EDITION 2024. 136 PAGES

After ten years without hearing a word from her father, Andrea, the protagonist and narrator of The Night will be Black and White, gets a call from him asking her to come to Denver. Although she is deeply unsure about whether or not to go, she eventually decides to make the journey but first spends several days in San Luis Potosí with her paternal grandfather to find out more about the man who disappeared from her and her mother's life so many years ago, and perhaps come to an understanding of why he did what he did.

This brief, intense novel follows Andrea's journey as, encouraged by a famous writer, she sets out to look for her father, piecing together fragments of the past of a family broken apart by a tragic event that marked a watershed in the lives of everyone involved.

The Night Will be Black and White, Socorro Venegas's first novel, was published in 2009, winning the Carlos Fuentes National Award for the First Novel and a Special Mention in the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Award at the Guadalajara International Book Fair.
