The Ghost of the British Invasions

Claudia Piñeiro

CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG ADULT NOVEL. NORMA 2010, NEW EDITION 2021. 128 PAGES.

The story of the British invasions of Buenos Aires told from the point of view of a ghost of a young man from the time. An original approach that also establishes a dialogue with online culture.

In the early 19th century, the port of Buenos Aires was one of the most prosperous of the New World and it was rumoured that the British were planning to invade. However, the Viceroy and Spanish Crown were completely unprepared to defend it. Opinion was also split among the locals: some were in favour of opening trade to the British while others wanted to remain loyal to Spain. It was a turbulent and unpredictable political climate.
Julian, a boy raised in the House for Abandoned Children, starts work at the printing press that operates there and, with Manuel, one of the men who runs the business, goes out to explore the city, meeting the high society of the time. But his innocence and the discovery of love will get him involved in dangerous power games and intrigue that eventually demand the ultimate sacrifice.
