The theatre of memory

Pablo De Santis

NOVEL. DESTINO, 2000. 175 PAGES.

In the neurology ward of the hospital where he works, Doctor Martin Nigro receives a patient with no memory and no means of identifying him. The investigation into his past will lead the doctor to Luciana, a woman who the patient has forgotten, but who Nigro finds impossible to forget. The search for the truth takes the doctor on a dangerous, deadly path to the Foundation built up by the deceased Doctor Fabrizio, his former mentor. At the Fabrizio Foundation, memory is at the centre of all the experiments and obsessions of the researchers. A dilapidated museum recreates Giulio Camillo’s Theatre of Memory, a renaissance era building designed to concentrate all the wisdom of the world in a series of symbols. But underneath this invention is another theatre of memory, a secret one where Nigro will pay a very high price for his mentor’s final lesson.
