Open Veins of Latin America

Eduardo Galeano

NON FICTION, 1971. SIGLO XXI EDITORES NEW EDITION, 2022. 346 PAGES.

"I wrote Open Veins... to share other people's ideas and experiences of my own that I thought might be of some help, realistically, in addressing the questions that have always plagued us: Is Latin America, as a region, destined to suffer humiliation and poverty? By whom? Is it the fault of God, or nature? Isn't this tragedy in fact a product of history, caused by humanity meaning that humanity can undo it as well?
This book was written with the intention of bringing to light certain facts that the official history, the history according to the winners, covers up or lies about. I know that it might seem sacrilegious for an educational book to discuss the political economy as though it were a romance or adventure novel.
I don't think it's too conceited to mention the joy I feel when I look back and see that over time  Open Veins... has made its voice heard."
