Memory of Fire. 3 Century of the Wind

Eduardo Galeano

NON FICTION, 1986. SIGLO XXI NEW EDITION, 2015. 374 PAGES.

Latin America has not just suffered the pillaging of its gold and silver, its rubber, copper and oil. Its memory has also been stolen so that it doesn't know where it comes from and can't tell where it's going. Memory of the Fire is an attempt to restore the living history of the Americas in all its facets: its smells, flavours, colours and pain.
Volume One, Births, begins in pre-Columbian times and continues to the 17th century. Volume Two covers the 17th and 18th centuries and the final one takes us to the present day.
I would like for the reader to feel the history occurring as they read about it. I'd like to rescue it from the museum and breathe new life into its lungs. I want the past to be present.
Eduardo Galeano.
